David Gallagher: From Child Actor to Cure Autism Now Ambassador

David Gallagher is an actor from the United States, who was born Feburary 8, 1985. He started out as a child actor and model at the age of two, and has now been nominated five times for the Young Artist Award and once for the Teen Choice Awards. His biggest claim to fame is his portrayal of Simon Camden in the television series 7th Heaven.

The Early Days of David Gallagher

David was born in New York City to Elena and Darren James, the family has roots in both Cuba and Ireland. Elena and Darren James divorced when David was a teenager. His mother remarried to Vincent Casey. David has four half-siblings: Michelle, Kelly, Kyle and Killian. As you can see, quite the unusual family upbringing for David.

David attended preparatory school Chaminade College, where he graduated in 2003. He went on to study at the University of Southern California and later majored in Film and Television Studies in 2007.

David Gallagher and His Acting Career

In 1993, David made his film debut as Mikey in the sequel Look Who’s Talking Now, where he got to play the role of the son to John Travolta and Kirstie Alley. He appeared on Broadway in a production of A Christmas Carol in 1995.  Also, he went on to appear in a number of television movies, like Bermuda Triangle.

David started acting when he was only at the age of two, first posing for print advertorials in and around New York City, which led to commercial work. He was only a toddler when he appeared in several television advertisements for brands, such as Tyson Foods and Fisher Price. He had a regular appearance on the soap opera Loving when he was eight years old.

He collaborated with John Travolta again in 1996 for the film Phenomenon. In that same year, he started starring in the family drama series 7th Heaven as Simon Camden. The series ran for eleven seasons, and this made it one of the longest-running family dramas in the history of television and it also became The WB’s highest-rated broadcast.

During his filming hiatus, he made a few films, including the direct-to-video Richie Rich’s Christmas Wish and Little Secrets with Evan Rachel Wood. Gallagher left the show during the eighth season of 7th Heaven in 2003 to attend college full-time. He did, however, go back to the series just as a part-time cast during the ninth season and for what was considered to be the final season of the tenth season.

Seventh heaven was not the final call for the actor. He went on to appear in several more Hollywood productions. In September 2006, he appeared as serial killer Buck Winters on Numb3rs, a role he reprised in January 2009. He also played another suspected killer in the season 6 premiere of CSI: Miami. He also appeared in the direct-to-DVD horror sequel Boogeyman 2.

Gallagher appeared as Paul Shapiro, a troubled young man who was the prime suspect in a murder case, on the TNT drama Saving Grace in July 2008. His next appearance was as Ryan Stephenson, the son of a transgender woman, in an episode of the FOX crime drama Bones in October 2008.

Later, around November 2008, he starred as a suspect Jeff Ellis in an episode of the CBS show Without a Trace, where he was suspected of being responsible for the disappearance of a local nurse. He’s also known for his roles as Riku in the Kingdom Hearts video game franchise and as Seiji Amasawa in Studio Ghibli’s Whisper of the Heart.

He acted in the series The Deep End’s second-to-last episode as a man who was charged with second-degree murder despite being innocent. Gallagher was cast alongside Jake Weber in Takashi Shimizu’s Scared of the Dark in March 2012.

David’s Biggest Acting Milestones

The greatest part of his career was when he was working with the 7th Heaven crew. He managed to win an award and got nominated for awards while he was acting in this TV series. His role in the movie Look Who’s Talking Now is the one that also got to showcase his talent. Before that, he was mainly into advertising and had hardly gotten any movie or TV Series shows.

Once he got to star in his first movie, the career of the artist started going on an upward spiral from then on. David got his first big acting break in 1996 when he starred in a supporting role in the romantic fantasy–drama film Phenomenon. He is perhaps best known for his portrayal of Simon Camden in the 1996 drama series 7th Heaven. David appeared in the first seven seasons and the tenth season of the series. He also received a Teen Choice Award for his performance in the show. That’s when you know you’re onto big things.

David supposedly is single, although he dated a huge chunk of Hollywood’s biggest stars including Jillian Grace, Megan Fox and Shannon Woodward. It’s easy to see why women are attracted to him, but did you know that David is very caring and kind as well? He is a spokesperson for Cure Autism Now, for example, which speaks to his desire to help people that are not as lucky as him in life. His younger half-sibling, Killian, was diagnosed with autism, which may have sparked David’s drive to put his name and fame to good use.
